If You Say So

i’m caught in a predictable pattern
i’m not expecting the unexpected to happen
but i watch out
cos the radio’s on
and they’re playing lullabies

though i know i never wanted a lifeguard
it’s reassuring for you to be in the backyard
when the pressure drops
and the cold front’s on the horizon

so i’m asking: can i borrow your halo?
you say it won’t fit me
well, if you say so
i’m tending to everything in the garden
you say we’re going to break down
oh, what does she know?

i’m longing to be more white than whiter
minor offences to get the past looking brighter
and i don’t doubt that, in time,
i could be telling apple pies

to recap i find a solitary lifestyle
so disappointing
you should be sharing these moments
while the going’s tough you would say
“what is it this morning?”

then i’d ask you: can i borrow your halo?
you say it won’t fit me
well, if you say so
i’m tending to everything in the garden
you say we’re going to break down
oh, what does she know?

and all this talk makes me try
to cut off the routes of supply
while you’re sleeping, i’m sailing by
recalling your heavy sigh…
oh, what does she know?
