Talking Nepalese

celebrations can feel so obscene
when a year's been as bad as this one's been
so your idea to go for such austerity
is such a cunning scheme

it's a treat none of us should be denied
spending birthdays on chilly mountainsides
with creature comforts miles away
it's not your normal package holiday

you make good fridays incomparable
i'm seeing stars, or so it seems
and now my saturday's adorable
so full of remeniscent dreams
come monday morning you'll be wandering
in sturdy boots and dungarees
and maybe talking nepalese

lugging rucksacks of books to and fro
looking like you've no particular place to go
hilariously unprepared
but, crucially, prepared to have a go
