Metaphorically

about turn - i see a vision in red & in green
and you're sipping on a carton of ribena
you said: i don't like the funny way
you're looking at me
so i walked away but you were getting nearer
you laughed and took me inside
and it was then i realised
that you meant it metaphorically

i've read a few books
about the odd contagious disease
so i wouldn't exactly call myself a doctor
but whenever you said:
i'm staying in, feeling terribly ill
well, i knew your rasping voice
was just a put on
then once i thought i'd pop around
found you dancing in the garden
i guess you meant it metaphorically

now when you go out
and say you're going to be back about 3
well, it's going to be more like 7.30
but then it gets a lot worse
all this affection - can it be real?
all these hugs & kisses we're exchanging daily
and then you said that maybe
you'd like to have my baby
of course, you meant it metaphorically

so now i don't know
what i can and cannot believe
"wolf!" cried the boy, and "fire!" cried matilda
so as a reward
for all the years you've done it to me
i'm taking on your policy of vagueness
so when i say i'd like us
to get married in las vegas
well, i'm talking metaphorically

you know on me you can rely
i promise i won't ever cry
i'll stay with you until i die
but i mean it metaphorically
